From June 4th to 6th, the city of Palermo hosted the first DigiPlay Training of Trainers, marking a major milestone in the ongoing implementation of the DigiPlay project. Organized in collaboration with our partners from Croatia, Italy, and Hungary, the training gathered 12 trainers who are now fully equipped to bring digital innovation into grassroots sports across Europe.

Throughout the 3-day program, participants piloted and explored the DigiPlay Toolkit, a practical guide developed to support grassroots sport organizations in adopting digital tools for better management, communication, and event organization. The training combined theoretical discussions, interactive group work, and field visits that showcased how digitalization is transforming different sports disciplines.

One of the highlights of the training was experiencing digital applications in real sport contexts. Trainers visited ScalArt’s climbing facilities where they explored gamification and ranking tools in bouldering, followed by a visit to the Sferracavallo Sailing Club where digital tools support nautical training and club management. The study visits offered concrete examples of how digital transformation is not only about management but also about enriching the athlete experience and improving inclusion.

The training also provided space for the project consortium to meet, review progress, and coordinate the upcoming activities. As the next phase begins, partners will organize local trainings in their countries, launch online sport challenges, and continue dissemination efforts to promote digital skills in grassroots sports communities.

The Training of Trainers in Palermo was a capacity-building moment, but also a strong reminder of DigiPlay's core mission: empowering grassroots sport organizations through practical digital transformation, making sport more inclusive, innovative and connected.
Stay tuned for updates as DigiPlay continues its journey across Europe!
