The UpSkilling Coaches Project has recently started with a Kick-Off meeting in Palermo, Italy.

Throughout the project the aim is to develop a new methodology to empower female coaches in minority sports, while promoting gender equality, and inclusivity across Europe. The project is funded by the European Union.

The project involves four different countries: Italy, Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Hungary. It is very engaging to work together with the partner organizations, build a new network of female coaches and share the insights among them. From the Hungarian side, two coaches are involved throughout the whole project. Anna, as a dance coach, and Lili, as a triathlon coach, find it extremely important to deal with the problem of the empowerment of female coaches in minority sports. ‘Every sport has its own specifics - that's why it was very interesting to summarize the experiences of the female coaches from different sports at the opening meeting. From powerlifting, yoga and dance to flag football, our fellow female coaches reported different experiences. During the project, we try to examine all the problems that arise in relation to gender equality and equity and to deal with these problems in an appropriate way..’

The project team currently does research (qualitative and quantitative) in all four countries to understand female coaches and the context they work in. Based on the results and data, an e-learning toolbox and workshops would be developed to enhance technical, leadership, and inclusivity skills. The exciting journey of the project to support female coaches and transform sports across Europe will be happening in the upcoming two years. Stay tuned for updates and follow our progress as we break barriers together!
