As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering leadership skills among youth workers, we are thrilled to announce the release of our new toolkit, developed through the "Coaching as a Tool for Improving Leadership Skills" project. This project, held from January 11-17, 2024, in Širvintų, Lithuania, was designed to empower youth workers with the skills and techniques necessary to guide young people towards effective leadership.
The project focused on integrating coaching techniques with leadership training to create a transformative experience for participants. By shifting from traditional instructional methods to a more supportive, coaching-based approach, we aimed to develop leadership skills that are adaptable, empathetic, and effective.
The primary objectives of the training course were:
Develop Transformational Leadership Skills: Using coaching to enhance leadership abilities.
Deepen Knowledge of Coaching Techniques: Equipping youth workers with strategies to foster youth leadership.
Utilize Digital Tools: Training on digital tools for effective group and individual coaching.
Enhance Cultural Communication: Improving leadership skills through art coaching.
Our comprehensive toolkit is designed to be a valuable resource for youth workers, specialists, leaders, and volunteers. Here are some key components:
1. Self-Awareness Session:
Activity: "Leadership Self-Assessment"
Purpose: Helps participants identify their leadership strengths and areas for improvement.
Method: Participants complete a comprehensive questionnaire followed by group discussions to reflect on the results.
2. Effective Communication Skills Session:
Objective: Enhance communication skills through role-playing activities.
Activities: Role-playing scenarios to practice active listening, empathy, and constructive feedback.
Debrief: Group reflections on challenges and effective communication techniques.
3. Public Speaking and Leadership Session:
Objective: Improve public speaking skills.
Activities: Writing and delivering speeches, followed by peer feedback and reflections.
4. Strengths Recognition Workshop:
Objective: Help young people find and recognize their strengths.
Activity: Creating collages representing their strengths and sharing with the group.
5. Leadership Values and Styles:
Content: Detailed exploration of various leadership styles such as Servant Leadership, Transformational Leadership, and Adaptive Leadership.
Application: Practical exercises to understand and apply these styles in real-world scenarios.
How to Use the Toolkit
The toolkit is designed to be user-friendly and adaptable for different group sizes and settings. Each session includes clear instructions, discussion prompts, and reflection activities to ensure meaningful engagement and learning.
